Play a round in a golfer's paradise.
Whether
you're here for business or pleasure, it's worth taking time out for
golf and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well the golf
courses are kept in the Hebrides. While the greens and
fairways
may not be up to some mainland standards, the views and the wildlife
more than make up for it.
Besides, we all
need a new challenge occasionally.
There are five
courses to choose
from - so perhaps you’ll be back with friends to spend a week
playing the lot. To avoid disappointment, we suggest
you
check the course you choose is not reserved for a competition.
Stornoway Golf Club
is less than
a mile from the Caladh Inn and offers 18 demanding holes in a beautiful
parkland setting. Pay and play - most weekday times with no tee booking
- currently £15 a round or £45 for a week. Note
that most
Saturdays are normally members' medal play.
Harris Golf Club
(photo above)
may be the most spectacular location in the UK - the views are
amazing. An annual club competition takes place to win the
Faldo
Fiver, which Nick signed before placing it in the honesty box - these
days you’ll pay a £10 for the day (9 holes).
Take a ferry from Harris to the Southern Isles, where you can play the
9 hole, 18 tee course originally laid out by servicemen
stationed
at Benbecula - it’s flat and short, but surprisingly
demanding -
also £10 per day.
Then travel further
south to
Askernish, a 9 hole, 18 tee links course designed by Old Tom Morris,
where you’ll certainly feel the Atlantic breeze and enjoy a
great
welcome from the members.
Finally. take the
ferry from
Eriskay to Barra where you can play the nine hole links course at Barra
Golf Club, enjoy more Atlantic views and try to avoid what’s
claimed to be the largest sand bunker in the world!

travel and accommodation package to cover all five courses, see
